COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

Qualifications and Experience

  • Preferred major: Communications, Public Relations, English or similar. However, other majors will be considered if the applicant has relevant interests and skills.

  • Preferred location: Greater Boston or New England

  • Knowledge of email broadcasting tools, including EveryAction.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, especially for social media

  • Problem-solving and time management skills with an attention to detail.

  • Previous work experience in digital media, marketing, communications, and/or fundraising. Volunteer roles, internships, and co-op positions count!

  • Identify new trends in communications/media and propose ways for TransitMatters to leverage those trends.

  • Proficiency in graphic design software, including Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud.

  • Confident self-starter, comfortable in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Must be passionate about the mission of TransitMatters.

Help TransitMatters build our communications efforts! We’re seeking a talented communicator to join our team for a semester to support our transit advocacy work across Greater Boston and the Commonwealth. A self-starter with strong research, writing, and social media skills who can support our Communications Specialist will do well in this role.

The Communications Intern will be involved in our day-to-day communications, such as:

  • Drafting weekly posts for X, the platform formally known as Twitter and Threads

  • Researching content for Instagram Explainers

  • Compiling and vetting news articles for our newsletters

The Communications Intern will also take on one or more of the following projects:

  • Create and implement a new email strategy

  • Research alternatives to X, the platform formally known as Twitter

TransitMatters is a non-profit organization committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment. The position is flexible, 10-20 hours per week. This position begins in mid-January and runs until mid-May. The position offers the opportunity to network with leaders across many sectors, learn about communities across Eastern and Central Massachusetts, transportation policy and equity, and much more!
